AEIOU: The Miracle Journal Prompt
Anyone who knows me well knows that I can’t stand exercise. My kids like to joke that I will only run when chased!
I have never been at a healthy weight until the last few years. I guess losing 75 lbs will make a person look thin and fit, but an exercise plan wasn’t a part of my weight loss journey and I am not strong even if my jeans are a single digit.
So when I say that I have exercised every day for the last 6 days it is a big deal. For those of you who love exercise feel free to laugh at my tiny miracle. I take comfort in the fact that I know I’m not alone in my dislike of all things sporty!
The true miracle is that a simple journal prompt, AEIOU, changed my habits this week. To the point that one night when it looked like it could rain any minute I still took Spencer on a 30-minute walk at the lake while Tyler was at baseball practice.
So, without further suspense:
A- Avoided Flour and Sugar (Feel Free to sub in whatever you want to avoid in your life or your diet)
I- What did I do for myself today?
O- What did I do for others today?
U- What new understanding do I have for my life?
I write these under my 4 G’s on my to do list journal. Here is an example of what my 4 G’s and AEIOU looked like yesterday.
Good-family time with the kids- love summer break!!
Grateful- good kid day- very little drama- one of the drawbacks of summer break is kids who get bored pretty quick.
Glitch- not getting much writing done, feeling discouraged about the blog
Goal- blog catch up!
A- yes I avoided sugar and flour
E- yes- 30-minute walk with Spencer
I- Took time to write
O- Made breakfast for Thomas
U- When I get discouraged because my weight has been fluctuating more lately by 2-3 pounds I need to remember where I started 2 years ago.
Maybe it’s the perfectionist in me or some OCD kicking in, but I hate seeing every line except that E filled in. Who knew writing the letter “E” in my notebook would be so motivating? I don’t know if it will last, but I am sure I will exercise today because I have my AEIOU written under my to-do list.
How do you stay motivated to exercise? Does it come naturally or do you need an outside motivator like me?
